Why do we spend so much time smiling at others but we have such a hard time smiling at ourselves?  Don't get  me wrong, it's extremely beneficial having others smile back at you -- in fact, it can be magnetic and healing at times.  What also is important is that we learn to look ourselves in the mirror and learn to smile at who we see looking back at us in the mirror.  It allows us to like who we see.  We learn to love who reflects back at us in that mirror.

The very same thing happens when we are unhappy.  Can you imagine what that mind of yours thinks or what you begin to believe about yourself if you are constantly looking in a mirror sad and unhappy or tearful?  Uggghhhh....just stop it already.  It's so not worth it.  You are better than that.  How you feel about yourself is more important than how others feel about you.  You are the one who has to live with yourself.  Don't you want to wake up smiling and starting the day driving into work or having your morning cup of coffee with that someone special.  That's YOU!  Remember, if the one looking back at us in the mirror is sad and tearful, that's exactly how you will start to see yourself.

The mirror is a magical tool.  Whichever one you look in - it's the reflection back at you and how you perceive yourself that matters!  Get comfortable smiling at yourself and seeing the beauty in yourself that you are.  Feel vibrant!  Embrace your life in a positive way.  Your magical mirror is yours - You Own It!  You determine whether you like what you see or not.  You are beautiful and vibrant, now believe it.  Be everything you can be.  Take a moment each day and smile back at that face in the mirror that you see.  You deserve to love yourself.

What's even better is when you grow to a level of self-love that you can laugh at yourself.  You laugh and you realize you are just a big goof and that it is ok to be that way.  It creates happiness within you.  Laugh at yourself a few times and see how it makes you feel.  If you can do this, does it really matter what others are doing?  Does it matter if they are laughing?  If they are, it makes things more humorous and liveable on your end.  You are the one that matters in your life of happiness.  Imagine what a much better parent, spouse, sibling, co-worker, classmate, friend or colleague you can be if you can wrap your mind around the idea of knowing your are the MAGIC behind the mirror.  Now, SMILE!  Laugh!  Embrace who you are and Go With IT!  You are so worth it!

Well said. It's best to look at is as if you're always looking in the "skinny mirror!"

Hi Chrissy,

Perception is everything. I think you look great. The skinny mirror is fine as long as you are not one who thinks they are too thin. ; )

Do you know why some people can create magic and others cant? Do you know why a magician can create an illusion? Because in both situations, the person believes they have the magic within themselves to do so. Meg, alot of the reason I have the magic to inspire is because I draw on the inspiration from all of my fans and followers. It's supposed to be. I believe that. You are gorgeous, talented, beautiful, a great friend, mother, wife, writer, cook, business woman and coach. Keep climbing mountains, its amazing what we find on the other side.

Signed your online bestie...haha

It used to be easier, but is now harder, after so incredibly much rejection for so long...but will keep trying... ;-}

The magical mirror is about perception. If you see the situation as rejection, then that is how it will be perceived. If you see someone else saying no to you, it could be seen as an opportunity for something better coming your way and you not being tied up with a distraction that the rejection could have been.

i love this!! i couldn't agree with you more - just the other day i was out shopping and it's true - smiling at others and others smiling at you gives you such a good feeling. and then there are the people who don't hold doors and walk around grumpy/not paying attention/that are just plain rude. i think it's so important to smile and laugh at yourself - it's good for your soul! wonderful post!
have a happy weekend, irish. <3

Keep smiling my dear. You could teach a class on this. I do make an exception to this rule though...your smile is super contagious to us all.
You radiate sunshine.

ah yes, laughing at myself has been one of the greatest actions to take when I'm feeling less than happy:-) I once spent 2 hours working on a difficult project and my computer stopped working. I lost all my hard work. I wanted to cry. I stared at my dog who was looking very bewildered. This made me laugh. I just bowed down and started laughing at myself. Something amazing happens when you do this. It puts things into a new perspective. It gets you unstuck and on a different frequency. Laughter really is the best medicine. Besides, when you look at yourself laughing in the mirror, it totally beats seeing the inverse:-) Keep smiling!
