Have you seen the news lately? It just makes me want to cry! With all the current events happening in the day today, how do you stay hopeful that there is still a chance for our world's humanity? How is it possible to stay positive when everything seems so continuously unsettled? These are all questions that lots of people ask themselves everyday. Turning on the TV or even picking up the newspaper to read while you sip down your morning coffee can turn into a very depressing and hopeless feat. Even though these are the days we are living in, there is no reason to let a cloud of doubt and negativity ruin your positive outlook on the world and motivation to succeed. I truly hope you take that to heart! I mean it.
One option you have that never goes away is the ability to turn your heart towards your faith in times of crisis and uncertainty. While you are at it, turn your heart and mind toward the power of positive thinking too. Faith is a steadfast belief that can be a comfort and a rock when everything else seems to be crumbling below. It's that one bit of strength that can keep you having HOPE!
Another option to help you through difficult times is to recognize that bad things are going to happen! I wish I could tell you that they can be prevented but some of them just can't. Pure and simple, no matter how hard you try, there will be things in the world that will be devastating and saddening. I know that just sucks but it is how this world is. We almost always have a gut reaction to blame our faith when something goes wrong or we just like to simply deny a situation.
Here's a tip to avoid denial; accept the fact you cannot control everything in the world. Most of the big things will NEVER be in our control. Things like hunger, war, natural disasters are all out of reach so be inspired to reach out and focus on the things that we DO have within our control. Perhaps volunteer at a food bank, help mentor someone experiencing spiritual darkness or raise money to donate through the Red Cross for the victims of natural disasters or war. Make sense? Sometimes when we open our hearts to others we are able to let go of pain we feel because we are not spending all our time focusing on that. Instead, bring happiness and comfort to others.
If you are facing a difficult situation a little closer to home like cancer or a death in the family, it may take some effort to stop questioning why these things happened. In this scenario, you just might need to take the time to grieve and cope with the hurt going on in your heart. Accepting is a process and please don't expect that it will happen overnight. Take it upon yourself to slightly distract yourself from the situation at hand to give your brain a rest for a bit. Talking will help too. Find a confidant or religious leader that you can talk to and work through the feelings you may be having. Just like you allow your friends and family to lean on you during their challenging times, it's important to let them be there for you! Go ahead and open your arms and let them hug you.
Surround yourself with others of your faith who promote positive thinking. It is difficult to stay on the positive path when you are forced to block out a constant stream of doubt and negativity some individuals drown themselves in. Especially in difficult times, do your best not to engage in their darkness and make a good faith effort to attempt to assist them when you can.
You know those people who just throw off that amazing positive energy? The ones who just warm up the room. I hope you take the time to utilize the spiritual guidance of them when you can. Don't forget to make plenty of time for yourself. Do something you enjoy by yourself or with friends and family to take the pressures of the outside world away. Sometimes relieving stress can take nothing more than a short break to gather your thoughts.
Lastly, as I often remind you of - Don't forget to take "Me time". Allow a short time to pray or meditate everyday, giving your mind a chance to rest and rejuvenate. Whether it's while the kids are taking a nap or a lunch break at work, taking time for yourself is very important.
The bottom line my friends. Keep hope. Have faith and enjoy life. Life is not always simple. But it can be fun throughout it. So we have a few bumps in the road. Just ride the storm out and rely on the ones you love. Most importantly, remember to say a little prayer. That won't hurt either (smiling)!
